Data Transmission
A common point of failure in ePRO systems occurs during transmission of data from a patient's home to the data center. ePRO-LOG™ is uniquely engineered to address the most common reasons for these failures including no mobile phone reception, no home phone line, a patient neglecting to place the device in a cradle, a patient neglecting to initiate data transmission, cradle seating errors, and cradle set-up errors.
ePRO-LOG™ is the only eDiary engineered with automated, redundant data transmission. It works with two different kinds of wireless radios: a GPRS cell phone radio and a Bluetooth® radio that works with a small modem that connects to home phone lines. ePRO-LOG™ will try to connect using one method and if that is not successful it will automatically attempt to connect using the back-up method.
Additionally, because ePRO-LOG™ does not require patients to place devices in cradles or sleds, transmission of data can be automatically initiated after each questionnaire is completed, thus getting data to study team minutes after data entry rather than hours later.
This redundancy and automation dramatically reduces the number of expected transmission failures. For example, if 96% of households in the study area have cellular coverage and 88% have analog phone lines, then ePRO-LOG™ can be expected to successfully transmit data in 99.5% of the households.
